Trending Shows Friends Reunion Special Delayed (Again) at HBO MaxMore stories by Michael HBO Max has some very flexible Friends. The upstart streamer’s postponed Friends reunion special has been delayed yet again, TVLine has learned. According to an HBO Max insider, the ongoing shutdown related to the coronavirus pandemic has pushed production of the special into fall (at the earliest). Last month, co-star David Schwimmer announced to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that HBO Max was eyeing a mid-August date to shoot the special. “But honestly, we’re going to wait and see [for] another week or two, if we all determine it’s really safe enough to do,” he added. “And if not, then we’ll wait until it’s safe.” Initially ordered at HBO Max in February, the unscripted special — which Schwimmer described as “a really fun interview” with “some other surprise bits” — will reunite original stars Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow for a look back at the series. It’s slated to be filmed on Friends‘ original soundstage on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, Calif. Production on the special was officially halted in mid-March as the coronavirus outbreak worsened in the United States, with HBO Max later confirming that the special would not be ready in time for the streamer’s May launch. This is definitely not our day, week, month or even our year!
They really want to be there for you …
Oh, that’s good, Dan.
Listen, I’m as big a fan of “Friends” as any other fan, but this is getting ridiculous. If the ladies of RHONY can do their reunion on the same stage, the cast of “Friends” can do the same. If not, please stop talking about it.
I prefer HBO Max to be spending all their effort on working out a deal with Roku first.
^^ This ^^
Well, now they can spend this time making it into an actual show! Pick up where it left off, still lots of greatness to be had even now.
They have already said this will never happen, and I applaud this decision. This is simply going to be a reunion of the actors discussing the show.
How about they give us an actual Friends revival episode since they have all the extra time. I will watch a “really fun interview,” but it’s not the same.
NBC already aired an interview special at the time of the finale and Oprah did an hourlong sit-down with the cast then too. Both are on Youtube. Why anyone would care to watch a group of people sit around telling the same stories for the millionth time is beyond me. As someone else said, HBO Max should use their time and money making deals with Roku and Amazon, not paying a these people to sit around telling boring, rehashed stories.
Then I guess HBO Max can focus on getting Sabrina…
I’d much rather wait longer to see a reunion show in the way it was originally planned, then them find some “safe way” to do it half-a$$.
