It seems the release of Monster Hunter Rise on the PC last week has already paid off - with Capcom announcing the game has now sold more than 8 million units in total worldwide.
Sales of Monster Hunter Rise were around the 7.5 million mark last October. The series, in general, has now shipped 78 million units as of 30th September 2021. Here's what Capcom had to say in a PR about the latest milestone:
"Monster Hunter Rise was released for Steam, a PC platform with a broad global user base, on January 13, 2022*. Featuring high-resolution 4K support and voice chat functionality for PC, the game provided a fresh hunting experience that garnered praise from players while additionally growing the player base across a wide range of countries and regions. This, combined with sales of the Nintendo Switch version that was released in March 2021, drove global shipments of the game to surpass 8 million units.*Japan Standard Time"
The PC version of Monster Hunter Rise features higher resolution and framerate support and also includes some additional screen filters. This build also got off to a great start on Steam last week - entering the top ten most played games on the platform.
On the horizon is Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak - a new DLC expansion slated for Summer 2022. This should bring even more players when it arrives.

I own it but it’s still in the cellophane. I just don’t really have the time to sink into it at the minute.
With PC I can see it pushing to 10 million before the Sunbreak boost. Depends how quickly Steam puts it on sale.
We’ll deserved! The game is sincere, for those still considering dipping their toes in the series, MH Rise is an excellent way to start. Yes there’s a learning curve and the gameplay is deep and extremely rewarding but it is absolutely worth it. Excited for the Sunbreak expansion!
I’m just happy to see a great third party release sell this well! I haven’t seen a third party game sell this well since the snes era!
I saw this game yesterday on a garage sale, my neighbor wanted like 20 bucks for it
I'm glad they explained what Steam is, otherwise I'd be so confused!
Be warned. Avoid it if you want social life or have time for other endeavors. Is a very addictive game, with lots of unlockables, and IMO, infinite playability.
I've already traded the game. Don't get me wrong. Great game. I just decided I wanted to invest my time in gaming elsewhere. I've got a back log so long and I still haven't finished mario oddessy, zelda breath of the wild and dk tropical freeze to name a few.
Monster Hunter Rise is now Capcom's 5th best-selling game of all time.
awesome. Keep up the good work Capcom
I’d double dip if they added cross saving and would like cross play. They did it with MHGU, why not MH:Rise too?
@Arawn93 I think sales could have been more but considering God Of War 2018 released on PC around the same time, wonder which game will people flock to most.
Also to note Elden Ring will come out next month but I am guessing sales will increase once Sunbreak arrives
Based on the Steam CCU numbers, launch sales of Monster Hunter Rise on PC were ~40% of that of Monster Hunter World on PC.
Will be interesting to see how well Monster Hunter World 2 sells, particularly on PC, when it launches.
Lets gooo
Hopefully Sunbreak is a hit too
@nessisonett Sounds like me and other games. This is why I have a hard time of approving of online service games over just downloading them for keeps. I don't like the time limit set on me even if it is a year.
Awesome. Such is the Power of Monster Hunter!
@locky-mavo
According to Capcom it was impossible from technical standpoint. Unlike multiplatform mobile games (or Minecraft i guess) Mon Hun saves your data locally so you'd need to import the data directly from the Switch. Keep in mind that unlike Gen/GenU it's also two vastly different platforms.
@westman98
The question is when a MH World sequel will launch. I’m guessing Capcom waits until there’s a larger install base on both PS5 and Xbox X, with the chip shortage and COVID life that could be 2023 being the earliest but more likely 2024 being more realistic. Just in time for the Switch 2 of course…which would position them with a massive potential install base by then.
@UglyCasanova 😂🙏
@Rainz
Based on that Capcom data hack from last year, a sequel to Monster Hunter World is scheduled to in launch late 2023 for PS5/XBS/PC. Of course Covid could easily push the launch to early 2024.
Really good game. The game that got me playing multiplayer and i never play multiplayer, ever.
@nessisonett If you're not planning to play online then the single player is short. It took me only 30 hours to do everything. Monster Hunter Tri on the other hand took me over 100 hours
Yep got it day one! Love it! Can’t wait for sunbreak dlc.
400hrs in!
I don't think going from 7.5 million in October on just the Switch to 8 million on Switch and PC means it's "globally driven by release on PC platform".
How much of that count is the switch version?
I enjoyed Monster Hunter Tri on Wii and 4 on New 3DS a lot but I'm going to wait for this one to come to Series X. Congratulations to Capcom for another deserved success!
This game is so good. A well deserved success.
The game, as it is now, need more content. I'm finished everything that has to be done in 80 hour mark, HR ~160. If sunbreak brings back the G rank, alternate armor sets (alfa, beta, etc) and (a man can dream) something like deviants... Only thing that i dont like much is the graphic style. I prefer the MHGU much more.
@westman98
Oh yeah forgot about the hack last year! You have to wonder what impact MS purchasing Activision/Blizzard will have on these larger independent devs. Exclusive IP is all the rage right now and ironically Nintendo is still King in that category. Wonder how much Sony will be offering up to land exclusives now , they’re gonna gave to play hardball. Landing an exclusive like Monster Hunter would be a key move for Sony right now. Don’t see it happening right away but we can expect these aggressive moves going fwd.
@KnightsTemplar
I've got a back log so long and I still haven't finished mario oddessy, zelda breath of the wild and dk tropical freeze to name a few.
I know what you mean MH games have always been a massive roadblock for me and the dreaded backlog. You really need to finish up Odessey and Tropical Freeze cause they're such amazing games. I just wrapped up Tropical Freeze and holy god was it such the perfect combination of fun and frustrating challenge! Worth every minute!
For comparisons sake, Rise sold 4 million in 3 days on Switch. Not that 500k is bad, mind you. Then again, the PC version will likely be a slower burn and continue to sell.
@eaglebob345 yeah, it is weird Capcom put this out as if the PC version isn't selling at a slower rate than the Switch edition. Maybe they are trying to justify putting it there for investors? In any case, this is good for them but not as good as they're letting on.
