If these weren’t different times, we’d argue that GMC should have just led with an SUV variant for the newly announced Hummer EV, although we definitely can’t rule out the possibility that one might pop up sometime in the future.

For now, we can use unofficial renderings such as this one by X-Tomi Design, to imagine what a hypothetical Hummer EV SUV might look like.

Drawing one up doesn’t seem all that hard from a structural standpoint. All you do is extend the roof and turn the C-pillar into a D-pillar. The result is something a little less utilitarian and more stylish, perhaps?

We could also make the case that such a vehicle could appeal to certain buyers that would otherwise spend their money on something like a ICE-powered Cadillac Escalade.

Before GMC resurrected its Hummer brand by turning it into an EV-maker, they had it shell out three different generations of trucks, each boasting at least two body styles.

The Hummer H1 came first, back in the early 90s. It was available with a total of five body styles. A 4-door open top, 4-door SUV, 4-door hardtop, 2-door fleet and 2-door enlarged cab. Its successor, the H2, was a little more user friendly, featuring just two body styles.

It’s been that way ever since, with both the H2 as well as the H3 coming in as either an SUV or a truck. In fact, you could argue that the Hummer H3T pickup was the 2022 EV model’s direct predecessor.

The H3T was on sale in 2008 and 2009, with GMC shipping a total of 2,738 units to U.S. buyers. The regular H3 SUV however did much better during those 24 months, with just over 26,000 units sold.
